What is the Safety Class? How can I use Open Shop?

If you didn’t already know, the Station North Tool Library is also a public woodworking shop; although folks work with all kinds of materials in there besides wood!  The Public Workshop is available for FREE to library members two times per week:  Sunday 11-5p and Tuesday 5-8p, BUT you have to have completed our mandatory Safety Class in order to access those Open Shop hours.

Safety Classes are offered several times a month, 2 hours, $25, register HERE.  During the class you are introduced to shop etiquette, machine safety, and you even get the opportunity to start using some of the basic machines by making a small project!

If you would like to start using some of the more intimidating machines and are totally new to the woodshop environment, we recommend you then take: Woodworking I and II.

During Open Shop hours, members who have completed the Safety Class may come in and use the machines they are “signed off” on; that process is explained in the Safety Class.  Please note; however, that while there is always a Shop Monitor on duty, their job is to oversee everyone and they may not have the ability to provide a member one-on-one instruction for an extended period of time or project assistance.  For that kind of in-depth instruction we offer classes or you may Hire An Expert to assist you with your particular project and skill advancement.  Email: chris@stationnorthtoollibrary.org for more information regarding the Public Workshop, Classes, or Hire an Expert.
