Using SNTL’s Shared Tools

There is no prerequisite to borrowing and using the library’s tools!*

We request that all members:

  • Ask for guidance when checking out a tool if you haven’t used it before

  • Go slowly and take care, especially the first time using a tool

  • Watch for cords, hoses, and other pieces that can be damaged while you work

  • Clean the tool thoroughly before returning— make it at least as nice as it was when you borrowed it

  • Let us know when you return if something broke, was broken, or wasn’t working well

  • Care for our shared resources the way you would care for something you own

If you aren’t sure how to use a tool, replace a bit or blade, or complete a specific task, we recommend YouTube as a great way to learn. There are lots of videos out there, so use your best judgment when looking for resources.

How-To Guides

Below is a playlist of videos compiled by our friends at Green Lents community tool library in Portland, OR. Check back for more resources as we are able to add them!:

*Due to difficulty of use and also the chance of messing up really badly, the drum sander and edger require members to complete the floor refinishing class prior to borrowing, and are our only reservable tools.
